FOUNDER AND Director
Marta oliveira
Ballet and Contemporary teacher, RAD Registered Teacher, Acrobatic Arts Registered Teacher, Flow Acrobatic Certification, Neurobiologist and Future Architect.
Began her dance studies around 3 years old, practicing classical ballet RAD Technique, Vaganova Technique and Pointe Technique, successfully completing the the Advanced 1 exam and obtaining her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies from the Royal Academy of Dance, among other short courses. Also explored Contemporary Dance, Jazz Dance and Pas de deux Technique, completing other specialized Formative courses in Contemporary Floor acrobatics, with Kenan Dinkelmann and becoming a certified Acrobatic Arts Teacher in the Acrobatic Arts Acro Program.
Since she was 18 years old, she has been teaching Classical Ballet, and preparing students for exams, international auditions and performances. Choreographed classic, contemporary and acrobatic pieces for students of all ages and produced several multidisciplinary shows and Video-Dance Short Films including, dance, music, visual arts and theatre.
Beyond Dance, Science has also always been present in her life. She attended the Master’s program in Medicine for 4 years and completed the Master’s in Neurobiology, conducting research in epilepsy. She participated in several courses such as Molecular Biology at IPATIMUP, Legal Medicine, Training for Screening, Basic Life Support and other national medical congresses. In 2020 she obtained the Professional Diploma in Nutrition from Shaw Academy in 2020. Currently, she continues her studies in the Integrated Master’s in Architecture at the Superior Artistic School of Porto. In this school she also worked as a live model for the universities human figure drawing and painting classes.

Our services

Classical BALLET & conditioning
Classical Ballet classes are great for learning good posture, musicality and discipline. In OPALA, we provide Royal Academy Certified Examinations to students of every level and age. We welcome everyone from 4 years of age to beginner adults to advanced students.

cONTEMPORARY & aCRObatic dance
In contemporary classes you will learn how to move freely and release your energy, incorporating and connecting different floor work exercises and creating choreographies. With acroflow you will learn specific acrobatic elements to add to those choreographies and well as pair and group acrobatic figures. If you are interested, you can join Acrobatic Arts Certified Examinations!

tap dance & Belly dance
For those who wish to have a new experience, we recommend tap dance and belly classes! These styles are not very common in Portugal, so you will be able to learn both about the culture and technique of these types of dance!

Musical instruments & choir
We offer individual or pair instrument classes! You can chose from Singing, Piano, Violin and Guitar! For those who wish to participate in a group activity, we recommend you try Choir Practice! In every class you are welcome to share with your teacher which songs you would like to work on.

Visual arts
You can try our Visual Arts classes including, Drawing, Painting and Ceramics! Come to our group regular classes of try a workshop on any kind! If you wish to just create by yourself, you are welcome to join our Open Atelier on Mondays!

Numa tarde banhada pelo sol de inverno, a academia de dança e belas artes Opala é preenchida por música. Ao fundo do corredor que percorre toda a escola, o treino da aula de Jazz ao som de “Almost like being in love” de Nat King Cole é interrompido por gargalhadas provocadas pelos erros das alunas. Os tacões ecoam pela Opala e o seu ritmo entra em conflito com a aula de guitarra que decorre a meio do corredor. A partir da porta entreaberta da sala à prova de som, ouve-se o professor a tocar um improviso no piano enquanto o aluno se esforça por o acompanhar. Mas esse conflito só é testemunhado pelos que se encontram na área de receção. Aqui, engolida por mantas e camadas de roupa quente, a jovem diretora da academia trabalha na sua tese de neurobiologia enquanto pensa numa coreografia para a música que assobia.
A opala, mineraloide, é conhecida pelo seu jogo de cores. Opala, a escola, reflete esse aspeto. As paredes brancas são preenchidas por várias obras criadas pelas professoras de Pintura. Interpretações do corpo feminino e retratos de paisagem esperam pelos trabalhos das alunas e alunos. Por enquanto, fazem companhia às várias pequenas plantas que habitam alguns dos cantos da academia de dança. Pelos outros cantos encontram-se pacotes de bolachas, embalagens de bolos, canecas de café, cadernos, mochilas, garrafas, as provas de que este é um espaço frequentado por quem aqui encontra uma segunda casa.
